No. 25 Tigers burn past Long Beach

Junior guard Jabari Brown scored 22 points and hit a key three pointer and senior guard Earnest Ross scored 16 more points as No. 25 Missouri (12-1) squeaked past Long Beach State, 69-59, (4-10) on Saturday.

The Tigers trailed 16 minutes into the first half then grabbed the lead for good three minutes later on a Brown layup. But behind UCLA transfer Tyler Lamb’s 17 points, the 49ers hung around until Brown’s trey gave Mizzou a seven-point lead with 2:18 to play.

LBSU has won the Big West Conference for three straight years.

“I think they’ll contend for their league championship,” MU coach Frank Haith said. “I think this is a great, great win for us.”

The win extends Missouri’s home win streak to 26 in a row, the longest in the nation. Seventeen of those wins came in the 2012-13 campaign.

Missouri opens Southeastern Conference play Wednesday against Georgia.
